My inspiration is drawn from both nature and my imagination; some pieces are scenes taken from memories of family walks or places I have visited. Others are much more abstract, capturing an idea, a personality or simply reflect the feelings evoked by an event or geographical area. All of the pieces, though, are true weavings, integrating the materials, landscapes or emotions I’ve drawn from my travels and experiences.

My artwork is created by upcycling fabric swatches from my wearable warps. I use fabrics as other artists use paints or inks, combining different patterns and colors into a kaleidoscopic piece. Several of my collages are inspired by mu concern for our planet’s health, something that the fashion industry has been guilty of damaging for quite awhile. Others reflect elements of nature or everyday life images.

All of my artwork from the past 35 years explores the relationship between the textile surface and pictorial illusion. Over the years, I have made several distinct bodies of work which all have certain concepts in common: an innovative use of techniques to create imagery, a commitment to craftsmanship and the beautiful object, and a search for a magical viewing experience – for both myself and the viewer.

I retell your story, my story, or the earth’s story in a contemporary textile art form. Whether you desire to experience one of these stories as art on your wall, or as a quilt to wrap yourself up in, I custom dye the material to embody these reflections. Or, if you have a photograph capturing the moment you want retold, I love using it as inspiration for designing the motif or the abstract composition.
